20 Oct 2008 Pepperoni Pizzeria
 |  Category: Bukit Timah, Italian  | One Comment

This is the place to go for the following reasons:

- extremely large pizza

- fantastic pasta

- great ambience (al fresco sitting), which makes you forget you are in singapore.

- excellent service

They have a wide variety of choices for pizza and pasta, which makes one totally spoiled for choice. Thank god the waitresses are really friendly and helpful. Their pizza comes in 3 different sizes. Medium, Large and X-Large. I guess their large one is good enough for 2, and you can actually choose a mixture of 2 different types of pizza. The X-Large one will probably give you a shock. It is definitely much bigger than any another pizza I’ve ever seen in Singapore. A normal 2 seater table is definitely not enough for it.

For appetizer, I had Portobello Mushroom ($17). It was so yummy, I couldnt have enough of it. It appears like its 1 huge mushroom deep fried. There’s a really unique taste to it and I believe Yogi (the mushroom lover) will love it tons. It is a must try!

I ordered Suprema & Prima for my large pizza ($22). It is the best pizza I’ve eaten in Singapore. The crust is super thin and crispy. The toppings are generous and tasty.

For pasta, I had a Vongole (clams in white wine sauce, $21). Its cooked aglio olio style and its great for me, because it ain’t too salty or oily. In other words, its perfect.

So, what can I say? This place is definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. I totally enjoyed the dining experience, i almost thought i was on yet another resort getaway. Although a tad bit remote, it gets really crowded on weekends. Customers are mostly caucasians, and advance booking is advised.

TS, lets go one day!

16 Oct 2008 Seoul Kool Korean Restaurant
 |  Category: Korean, Tanjong Pagar  | Leave a Comment

I recommend this restaurant for affordable Korean food! Unlike other higher end Korean restaurants, this place does not offer the traditional Korean BBQ. This restaurant is separated into 2 sections. The main one is bigger, with an LCD screen showing a Korean drama. The smaller one is located outside, with only a few seats.

As usual, the food comes with free side dishes (banchan). At other Korean restaurants that I’ve been to, they serve each customer 1 portion of the banchan. Here, though, they serve only 1 portion for the 2 of us. However, since its free top-up, one doesn’t really mind that, right?

Their Dolsot Bibimbap (Hot bowl mixed rice) is tasty. Its a popular Korean dish. However, their egg is sunny side up, which is different from the usual raw runny one.  You are supposed to mix the rice together with their given sauce before eating.

I also tried their Pork with rice (I can’t remember the Korean language for that). Its definitely meant for people who strong taste buds, because the red sauce is a little heavy.

So, for affordable and decent korean food, this is definitely the place. Its crowded during lunch hour since there are many offices near by and in that building itself. Otherwise, its a really quiet and cosy place.

16 Oct 2008 The Prime Society
 |  Category: American, Dempsey, Steaks  | Leave a Comment

I’ve often heard good reviews of The Prime Society at Dempsey, and so, I decided to check it out. Located among the numerous restaurants there (at the main carpark), I thought it was going to be a breeze to locate it. However, I had to drive around the carpark several times before i could locate it. That’s because it doesn’t have a grand and catchy entrance. In fact, its a pretty modest one.

Everything is different once you step inside though. It has posh settings, with a bar in the middle, and a cooking area at the end of the restaurant. I recommend Al-fresco sitting, because it overlooks a field, and it has a more relaxing feel to it.

They are famous for their fresh and tender steaks. I ordered lemon salt & pepper calamari ($12), fillet mignon ($32 for 160g) and flame grilled ribs ($25 for half a rack, $38 for full). Calamari was only so-so to me, but the fillet mignon was great! I had medium rare, and it was juicy and tender. The ribs were absolutely yummy as well. Both main course come with fries, small potatoes, vegetables. They ain’t exactly generous with their serving, so for big eaters (like don!), you’d definitely not go well with the small portions. I ordered small ones for all, by the way.

Their service was a little over-enthusiastic, coming over to take my order every minute when i had a hard time deciding what kind of steak i wanted. In addition, the price is quite steep. Be prepared to spend approximately $50 per person for small quantity of food. Overall, it was a pretty decent fine dining experience for me.

15 Oct 2008 Baked Rice!
 |  Category: Baked Rice, Home Cooked, Indian  | Tags: , , ,  | Leave a Comment

I love baked rice! And so i decided to bake my very own rice! haha. This is Donnie’s Salmon-Mushroom Bake Rice recipe!

Ingredients:

(Amounts to your own discretion and appetite)

Grated cheddar cheese

Rice

Salmon

Fresh button mushroom

Potato

Campbell’s cream of mushroom paste

Method:

Before I baked the rice, I cooked the ingredients first. For the salmon, I grilled it with pepper and salt to taste. After which I cut the fish into many pieces. I boiled the potato and when it is soft, cut them into cubes. Diced the fresh button mushroom and fried with garlic and butter till fragrant. Steam the rice.

Place the steam rice into a bowl and add the cooked ingredients. Scoop some cream of mushroom paste and mix with a little water. You want the paste slightly thick to use as cream sauce for your rice. Add the diluted paste to your rice, ingredients and mix. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese on top of your rice and place into the oven. It takes around 8 to 10 mins. Do check often to prevent the cheese from burning. Walaa!

Enjoy,

TS.

13 Oct 2008 Long Beach Seafood!

Yes, i can’t get enough of sea food! So my dearest dad brought us out for a scrumptious seafood dinner at Long beach at IMM, Jurong. We ordered Steam Crab with ‘Hua Tiao’ (Chinese Wine). Oh my, steam crab can only be enjoyed if its really fresh! And i tell you, i enjoyed it! Very nice, with lots of crab roe too. We had Bamboo clams, which was fantastic! They were much larger than what i normally have. Very fresh and tasty! The drunken live prawns is super fresh and sweet! The soup is very tasty too. Enjoyed the garlic fried spinach and ginger and spring onion fried frog legs. Really full of praises! I cant wait for my next seafood meal!

07 Oct 2008 Fish time!

If you are around Balestier and you are craving for fishhead beehoon and San Lao (fish slice) hor fun, you can head over to the shop at the corner of Jalan Kemaman Road. The zi char there was disappointing though. One of their speciality is some herbal seafood steamboat pot thingy. Have not tried that yet. Well, maybe will try one of these days.
