Easily one of my favourite restaurant! Nothing but praises for this absolutely lovely place.

This restaurant is great for people who want to get away from the city buzz (like me). Its something like Dempsey Hill, but definitely less crowded. Located along Tanglin Road (amid the embassies), its a little walk uphill if you are dropping off at the bus stop along the road.  Otherwise, it’d be good to drive, there’s free parking (and ample,at that)! Outdoor sitting allows a greenery view, great for nature lovers. Very pleasant and peaceful.  It kinda makes you forget you’re in busy Singapore.

I was there for brunch and I immediately fell in love with their menu. I settled for an Eggs Benny which was simply irresistible. Its a waffle with corn, syrup and a delicious yellow runny egg. It was a little rich though, so it might be a good idea to share (but I believe guys with a hearty appetite like Donovan might enjoy it alone!). My partner ordered a British Brekkie which seemed pretty normal to me with sausages, toasted bread and a sunny side up. He totally enjoyed it though. The highlight had got to be the Cinnamon Roll. It simply beats any other cinnamon-related pastry I’ve ever tried. It was so crispy yet soft. The sugar wasn’t too much, and the raisins went oh-so-well with it. It’s definitely a must-try! At $5 for a rather big piece, it just can’t get any cheaper. I tried their potato wedges (apparently, it wasn’t on the menu but my partner was just trying his luck) and it was awfully good and not too expensive. I ordered their latte as well and the foam came in a little heart shape. Perfect for girls who love little things like that :) Their coffee was very rich, and I guess it’d be perfect for coffee lovers who need that little boost at the start of their day. I enjoyed their mint lemonade too. It was too sour for my partner, but it worked well for me. Very refreshing for a hot day! Oh, and I understand that their sugar syrup was home-made :)

I am looking forward to more trips there, to try every single thing on their menu. I have never been there for dinner, but I reckon it would be good as well. Just blogging this makes me really hungry now!

Price wise, I would say its reasonable for their quality and quantity.

Reservations are HIGHLY recommended, because I always see a sneaking queue whenever I am there. I understand that they are always fully booked at least a week in advance, so please do book early to avoid disappointment! Singapore needs more restaurants like this! Stay tuned for my dinner update! And in case you can’t wait, here’s the restaurant’s info:

24 Jul 2009 The Great Singapore Feast

I came across this article in Yahoo! And being a food lover, it caught my eyes immediately, like a small boy who walked past a candy stall! haha. And being a nice boy, i wanna share this candy with all food lovers!!! (if you did not already know ie.) Check out the article below:

SINGAPORE: The Restaurant Association of Singapore has launched “The Great Singapore Feast” in an effort to entice local diners to local restaurants.

The promotional drive will see restaurants and partners pumping out S$1 million worth of vouchers to be sold through their websites. But only Citibank credit card holders and Singaporeans are eligible.

For S$35, diners can buy a S$50 voucher at the association’s website that can be used at any participating restaurant.

The association said with restaurants seeing as much as a 30 per cent decline in revenue, it is time to re—direct their efforts.

Ang Kiam Meng, president, Restaurant Association of Singapore, said: “A dip in revenue is also a major challenge especially during this economic downturn. Tourists are also not arriving so we very much need to rely on our local market to stimulate spending.”

The association hopes to drum up between S$1.5 million and S$4 million in additional revenue for the industry by the time the promotion ends on October 31.

173 restaurants are participating, including names like Tung Lok, Crystal Jade and Jack’s Place.

Restaurants said the impact of the discounts on their margins will not exceed one or two per cent and that is a price they are willing to pay in order to get the cash flow going.

Andrew Tjioe Ka Men, chairman, Tung Lok Group, said: “We experienced a dip in business, between 15 and 20 per cent for the fine dining. So when the market is bad, the priority is actually to bring in the cash flow, and try to create interest among the diners.”

Vouchers can be bought on the association’s website starting Friday.

22 Jul 2009 Chicken Rice Chilli Sauce!

I looovvveeee the taste of the Chicken rice chilli sauce! And so i learnt how to make it from my maternal grandmother! Making it on your own have many advantages! You can determine the spice level, you can add much more chilli puree and you can add more essence to the mixture to make it so tasty!

Those at the chicken rice stall are always so diluted and lack chilli paste/puree. Making it on your own, ensures freshness and taste! Here are some pictures of the chilli and the chicken rice meal that i cooked with my grandma!

22 Jul 2009 Satay Bee Hoon @ ECP

I stay in the west, but for good food i will travel to the end of the world! And so i made my way, a long journey to the east of Singapore, East coast park! haha, takes maybe around 1h30mins? Walked from Macdonalds to the food centre beside the cable ski, its a good 30mins walk! You can imagine, hungry and starving, crawling near the end and you see a super long queue! Faint on the spot man!

My friend told me usually the queue is very long. It was raining quite heavily slighty before i reached, so we expect only a short queue. I was commenting, what if all the other stalls have no queue and only the satay bee hoon stall have a long queue. Need i ask u guess what happened?!! Me and my bad mouth!

So was the satay bee hoon worth queuing up for? I would say yes. The success to a good satay bee hoon lies in the gravy and its gravy sure is tasty! It revived me from the long struggle to reach the stall! haha! And all geared up to try the other food there too! Love the bbq chicken wings!

Location:
Meng Kee Satay Bee Hoon
East Coast Lagoon Food Centre (Beside the cable ski)
East Coast Park.
Take Note: They are closed on Tuesdays!!!

Happy travelling to the East!

21 Jul 2009 Baked Macaroni and Cheese
 |  Category: Italian, Recipes  | Tags: , ,  | Leave a Comment

I love cheese and so that makes baked macaroni and cheese one of my favourite dish! I think i have too many fav dish! haha. A friend told me today, that the most sort after last meal before a death sentence is KFC!! WHAT!!!! Is KFC that nice??? haha. definitely not for me. He then asked me , if i were allowed one last meal before a death sentence what it will be. Can anyone make a guess what i will order? haha. I will tell you the answer on my next post! in the meantime leave ur answers in the comments section!

Oh my, look how i have digressed to death sentences. alright back on track, i love mac & cheese so much! i attempted to make it~! And here is the result!

Well, its actually very easy to make! Buy whatever ingredients you are craving for! Maybe abalone and sharkfins? I added fresh button mushrooms and ham! First, you boil the macaroni till soft, do add salt to taste and some oil while boiling. After that u set aside and add the ingredients you bought. Add the cheese, i added mozzarella, and add some cream sauce to keep it moist. If u prefer it dry, u can leave out the sauce. Mix well and cover with more cheese! Bake and in around 5-10 mins, ur meal is done! fast and easy! good for lazy ppl like me to cook! hahaha!

Enjoy!
